VAT registration certificate in Jersey – official record

A tax / VAT registration status Jersey record confirms whether a named entity is registered for tax purposes there, as at a given date. The regime and fee for this record are still being confirmed against the primary source. REGISTRUM confirms availability and cost before any order is accepted.

What this document shows

A tax / VAT registration status is a status record, not a tax return and not a filing history. It confirms whether the named entity appears on the relevant register in Jersey on the date of issue. The register itself, and who has access to it, is a separate question from what a single certificate can show.

The fields common to this document family are the entity's registered name, a reference or registration number where one is held, and the registration status as at the search date. Some issuing authorities add the date registration began or the date it ceased; others hold only the current status. Which of these fields Jersey's own certificate carries is being confirmed against the primary source, and REGISTRUM will state the confirmed fields on the order page once that check is complete.

REGISTRUM treats this Jersey VAT registration status as one Jersey company document among several, rather than as a substitute for the others. A certified Jersey extract from the companies register answers a different question – who owns and directs the entity – and is ordered separately from the tax register. Firms requesting several documents together are still charged and timed against each one individually.

Availability of this exact certificate for Jersey is presumed rather than verified at the time of writing. That distinction is not academic for a firm working to a filing deadline. REGISTRUM checks the register before any payment is taken, and reports back before the stated turnaround if the certificate does not exist in the form a client has requested.

The document is a snapshot, dated and narrow by design. It answers one question: is this entity registered for tax purposes on this date. It carries no assessment of the entity's tax position, no forecast of future status, and no reading of what the status means for a pending transaction. Those questions sit outside a registry record, wherever it is issued.

What it does not show

The certificate does not show turnover, tax paid, or any assessment of the entity's ongoing compliance. Status is binary and dated: registered or not, on that day. Nothing about payment history sits inside it.

It does not show group structure. Where a Jersey entity has separated its trading and holding functions, this certificate speaks only to the entity named on it, not to any related company. A separate certificate is required for each entity, and each is ordered, priced and dated on its own.

It does not show ownership or officers. Those sit on the companies register and on the entity's own records, not on the tax register. A reader who needs directors, members or beneficial owners orders a different document.

It does not show whether the registration is the right one for the activity. Jersey keeps its own tax arrangements, and the name a receiving party abroad uses for the status it wants may not match the name used locally. REGISTRUM confirms which certificate the register actually issues under the requested title before the order is placed. That check matters for a firm sending the document to a counterparty that expects a particular heading.

Access is the structural point. Some tax registers release a status only to the entity itself or its appointed representative, not to a third party asking about it. Whether Jersey's register applies that rule, and whether a foreign applicant can obtain the status without a local step, is being confirmed against the primary source. Where the register turns out to be closed to third parties, REGISTRUM says so and does not take the order.

How it is obtained

This is not an open free search. A status of this kind is issued on request, against a fee, and the issuing authority for Jersey is being confirmed against the primary source. REGISTRUM does not name an office it has not checked.

The official fee is separate from REGISTRUM's own charge. It is confirmed before any quotation and stated with the date on which it was checked. The normal turnaround follows from the confirmed route and is stated once that route is settled. No fee and no turnaround is quoted from memory on this page.

The language of issue is English. That removes the translation step at the point of issue for most readers. Where a receiving party abroad works in another language, a certified translation is ordered as an add-on and priced separately.

A foreign applicant may not be able to apply directly. Where the register requires an authorisation from the entity, a local representative or a local account, a licensed registered agent in the jurisdiction lodges the request on the applicant's behalf. Whether Jersey's tax register falls into that category is being confirmed against the primary source. No national identifier or local electronic signature is expected of the client; where one turns out to be required, REGISTRUM states it before payment.

Reuse is per document. The certificate is supplied for the use stated at the time of order, and a further use calls for a fresh copy rather than a re-issue of the first. Where an apostille is added, it certifies the signature and seal of the issuing officer, not the truth of the content. A certified Jersey extract from the companies register, if ordered alongside, follows its own route and its own reuse rule.

Price and timeline

Price on request. The fee is quoted once the issuing authority and the official charge for Jersey have been confirmed against the primary source, and before any payment is taken. Apostille, certified translation, courier delivery and rush handling are available as add-ons, each confirmed as a separate line when selected. If the document does not exist in this jurisdiction or cannot be obtained for you, we say so before you pay and we do not take the order.

How long does a tax / vat registration status from Jersey take?

The turnaround is confirmed before the order, not estimated after it. It depends on whether the register releases the status to a third party directly or only through an authorised route, and on any apostille or courier step that follows. REGISTRUM states the expected timeline together with the fee once both have been checked against the primary source. No figure is quoted from memory here.

Will a Jersey document be accepted abroad without an apostille?

That decision sits with the receiving party, not with REGISTRUM. Many tender bodies, registrars and banks abroad ask for an apostille on a Jersey company document before accepting it; some accept the certificate alone. The apostille certifies the signature and seal of the issuing officer, not the truth of the content. REGISTRUM confirms whether the step is available and adds it on request.

What does a tax / vat registration status in Jersey not show?

It does not show turnover, tax paid, filing history or any assessment of compliance. It does not show owners, officers or related companies. It confirms one thing: whether the named entity is registered for tax purposes on the date of issue. A Jersey vat registration status obtained today says nothing about the position next month, and it is not a clearance of the entity's tax affairs.

Can a third party order this status, or only the entity itself?

Some tax registers release a status to any applicant; others release it only to the entity or its appointed representative. Which rule applies in Jersey is being confirmed against the primary source. Where an authorisation from the entity is required, REGISTRUM states that before the order and supplies the wording needed. Where the register is closed to third parties altogether, the order is not taken.

Is this the same as a certificate of good standing?

No. A certificate of good standing confirms that the entity is on the companies register and has met its filing position at a date. A tax / vat registration status Jersey record confirms registration with the tax register only. The two are issued by different keepers and answer different questions. A reader who needs both orders both, and each is priced and timed on its own.

State the entity, the jurisdiction and the date you need it by; we confirm availability and the fee before you pay.
